Long long ago in a-- wait no that's copyright infringement isn't it? Back in the yesteryears of the comm we had a grand old thought experiment proposed by one of our players:

Character Mood Boards

The idea was to represent your character like one of those Pinterest boards or Tumblr Aesthetic posts. Predominantly with images and very little text if any. Folks loved it, check out the link above if you'd like to see what was posted last time! I've personally taken a huge liking to these and began making them much more often on my own time to represent how a character feels at any given time about the plot going on around them.

That is why I'd like to reprise this post and invite everyone to make new mood boards for your characters or maybe a first one for characters that weren't around before! How have your characters changed from then to now?

Once more, the tools you will need:

Adobe Spark Free to Sign up, and the tool I use most often for these. There's a lot of room to customize.
Moodboard No sign in required, though there's a bit less to work with. Creates a linkable page rather than an image.

Hey all!

Our Discord has been bumping lately and a huge hit among the players is a Hunger Games Simulator where we put in Nexus characters to see who comes out on top in ridiculous scenarios. I'm going to be running these more often again in #that-hungee-vibe in the discord .

If you'd like to participate you should comment here or @ me in the discord and if you are NOT part of the Discord and would like in then you should shoot me a private message so I can include you. If someone volunteers your character in you could be the victor and never know!

Moodboards. Think Tumblr ~aesthetic~ posts. What would your character's board consist of? Color palettes, themes, fashion, scenery, textures, etc.? No particular format required -- no need to stick to the classic nine-image square.

If the spirit moves you, throw one (or several) together and share it in the comments!

So, here's a thought exercise: What would a video game encounter featuring your character be like? In this scenario your character should be a major player in some way, but the details are up to you. Would adventurers or raiders be fighting your character? Would your character be aiding the good guys against baddies or an environmental threat? Or is it more of a puzzle encounter? What's the genre of their game? What would the mechanics be like? What are the rewards for beating your character's event?

Now that the Halloween event is winding down and we've all wasted away doing that Mega Survey, who'd like a little cooldown prompt for when you want to waste just a LITTLE bit of time? A list of character flaws recently crossed my tumblr dash and it seemed like a fun little meme to share! On Tumblr they were bolding and italicizing flaws, but it's easier to do on that platform. Here I'd say: Make two sets of lists (or three, if you want!) detailing:

Flaws your character Currently Has, Once Had, and (if you choose) Is Developing (or Has the Potential For.)

Hey everyone, it's Gish! I had a thought earlier this week about how much fun it is to fill out FORMS. Which is to say, filling out questionnaires and quizzes about your character(s). It was something that went around a lot more with the old LJ Nexus days and in a curious attempt to bring it back in a new way, I thought I'd try this!

Under the cut is a questionnaire about character basics. No one's required to fill this out, or even fill out ALL of it. This is just for funsies and a chance for all of us to talk and think a bit more about our characters.

Depending on how this goes, I might look into making this a regular thing on the OOC comm with different focuses and themes. Anyway, have at it! I look forward to reading any and all responses!

Fellow nexus players, I'd like to ask you a very serious and complex question on the subject of characterization: when invited to play an RPG with friends, what class would your character play?

Mind you, this is not about what RPG class best fits your character's actual skills and abilities. This is about what they'd pick in a game of let's-pretend, and what sort of player they'd be. For example, maybe your normal human with no unusual abilities is actually the worst sort of wizard powergamer once the dice start rolling. Or maybe your shy, quiet little bookworm turns out to only play giant, loud, and very angry barbarians, which no one else in the group saw coming. Beware the quiet ones, kids.

If you aren't familiar with classic RPG classes or just need a refresher, here are a few lists from different tabletop systems to get you rolling:
3rd edition Dungeons and Dragons
Pathfinder
4th edition Dungeons and Dragons

Or pick your own! Maybe the best fit is a class from another tabletop RPG, or one of the old Final Fantasy games, or from an MMO you're playing now. The exact details aren't that important - just be sure you find us a link to a wiki page or something, if one's available, so we can see what you're talking about.

I was thinking (dangerous a hobby as that is) and came across something I'd like to ask you all:

What are some of your favourite quotes from your characters? Or about your characters?

Witty one-liners, or life philosophies, in canon, from roleplay, anything and everything. I'm curious to read the quotes I might have missed, or appreciate the classics. And don't worry about bombarding me. List as many as you like!

You got art of your character? You got mixtapes for them? Fanvids? Share them here! Whether you made it or someone else did, we want to see it. Just make a header post for your character and put all replies under that header. If you find art (etc.) of someone else's character, please run it by them first before you post it here. Group shots should go under the Group Shots header.

If your image is big (like really, really big) try to resize it, post the smaller version, and add a link to the larger one.

Crediting the creators or making a good faith effort to do so is mandatory. If you've got art and don't know the source, remember that you can reverse google image search it, which might point you towards the original source. If you can't find the source, please make a note of that.

Remember to track the thread so you can always know when there's a new entry!
