Let's do a meme!

Fellow nexus players, I'd like to ask you a very serious and complex question on the subject of characterization: when invited to play an RPG with friends, what class would your character play?

Mind you, this is not about what RPG class best fits your character's actual skills and abilities. This is about what they'd pick in a game of let's-pretend, and what sort of player they'd be. For example, maybe your normal human with no unusual abilities is actually the worst sort of wizard powergamer once the dice start rolling. Or maybe your shy, quiet little bookworm turns out to only play giant, loud, and very angry barbarians, which no one else in the group saw coming. Beware the quiet ones, kids.

If you aren't familiar with classic RPG classes or just need a refresher, here are a few lists from different tabletop systems to get you rolling:
3rd edition Dungeons and Dragons
Pathfinder
4th edition Dungeons and Dragons

Or pick your own! Maybe the best fit is a class from another tabletop RPG, or one of the old Final Fantasy games, or from an MMO you're playing now. The exact details aren't that important - just be sure you find us a link to a wiki page or something, if one's available, so we can see what you're talking about.

Well, one of these two is easy. Ghost wants to be a paladin: getting to be in the thick of the action, healing his friends and fighting evil but with a lot more armor and muscle. His character would still be pretty quiet in practice though, and he might have trouble adhering strictly to a lawful good alignment.

Blaze is trickier: she'd be happy to play any kind of fighter at first, but might find combat way less engaging in tabletop form and get frustrated if the other players lacked direction. Her secret wish-fulfillment would be to play a leader-like character, and once you got her to sit down and play she'd be much handier with number-crunching and tactics than her real-life approach might suggest.

I really like the idea of Ghost as a paladin! What "race" would he be? A big buff human? :)

Oh man, now I can't unsee the idea of him picking a human because 'that's the species I know best, I can definitely play one'... and then confounding the other players with his best impression of a human. :P Especially if he bases his 'average human' on the Guardians he knows.

He'd definitely be the more enthusiastic player of the two, and probably the only reason Blaze would stick around instead of making an excuse about needing to go punch aliens. She couldn't deny him when she can tell he's having so much fun. Sooner or later she'd get way more invested in the story they were telling and the lore of the setting, though.

That's adorable, especially Ghost doing an impression of a human. I honestly can't think of what sort of character Adia would want to play, but if she were in the same campaign as Ghost, she'd try to hide behind him the entire time. ;)

Oh my goddddd Ghost as a paladin!

Someone somewhere made the suggestion that Guardians of the Galaxy was just the Avengers sitting down to play a tabletop RPG and Steve ended up being Rocket Raccoon as a troll to the DM and I cannot unsee this.

Steve's a creative guy and I can definitely see him playing something silly and out there such as an anthropomorphic raccoon with a gun fetish.

While I can't settle on a class that would be the most interesting to him, I can say he'd put so much effort and detail into any character he made, and it would not be 'typical' by any means. He'd be the guy playing the barbarian who thinks he's a wizard.

Okok finally cleared out all my tags and got a chance to do this, pardon the Armand journal.

--Armand... I'm not sure he's the type to play tabletop games, but if he were, he would almost certainly roll a psion, with either a telepathy or telekinesis focus. Given his own choice, Armand would rather manipulate his enemies into surrendering than fight them head-on, so a character whose skills are practically tailor-made for that would be the most appealing choice for him.

The other big factor would be the ability to pretend to the rest of the party that he's something else entirely, since psions have similar armor and weapon proficiencies to druids, warlocks, and the likes, allowing him to manipulate them as necessary. (He would also almost certainly be the Token Lawful Evil Team Member who joined the party for entirely personal reasons, and probably a drow.)

--Dinah is a little harder to peg. Not being an experienced player, her biggest concerns would be helping out her party and avoiding being The Load; to that end, she'd probably go with a Pathfinder-style Hedge Witch of the healing tradition, since hedge witches still have some weapon proficiency and also get cool stuff like a grimoire and a familiar.

As far as alignment and race go, she'd definitely be on the good spectrum but probably closer to Neutral than a true Lawful Good, and probably either a gnome or a halfling.

--Vanyel chafes at arbitrary limits in every other aspect of his life, so he'd probably want to multi-class, something like warlock/artificer or sorceror/artificer. Failing that, he'd roll up a Pathfinder-style Magus who can use both magic and melee weapons. He might even, despite not really being the tricksy or manipulative sort, roll a Bard just to get away from that pesky "an x must prepare their spells in advance" rule even Magi get hit with.

He'd definitely be a Chaotic Good (he tends to bend the law as needed in his day-to-day and that would definitely carry over into his play style), and probably the one who really goes looking for quests/adventure hooks, talking to all the innkeepers and poking around in all the dark alleys he can find.

As far as race, if encouraged to pick something other than human he'd probably pick something along the lines of Aasimar (musetouched in particular would appeal to him), otherwise, he'd stick with human.

This meme makes me want to fill out whole in-character character sheets.

I see Han as the kind of guy who would be hesitant to play games and would want everything to go exactly the way he things that it should go, otherwise he'd threaten not to play. I picture him accepting victory with absolutely no grace and getting way more frustrated than he should be over losing. He'd probably try to 'bend' the rules whenever possible. And cheat if he thinks he can get away with it.

If we're talking D & D, I think his first character would be something of a protest/troll character. Something that he things would be constantly throwing a wrench into the way everyone thinks the game should go. Such as a wizard that knows no spells.

Then, when he started getting invested and his stupid character dies, he'd live out the fantasy he has of being the ne'r do wrong who fights for Just and Noble causes - because it was how he sort of hoped his life would play out as a teenager and then it really didn't pan out that way ...

A lawful good paladin or maybe a monk. I see him sticking with humans most of the time.
