How does this character express-
Anger: People think Jim has an explosive temper and can be prone to arguing or fighting when angry but this isn't true anger. Jim's an argumentative person by nature and eager to prove himself in most situations he's passionate about but when he's actually livid he tends toward quiet cold fury and maximum bitchface.

Sadness: Bury it down somewhere unseen until he can get somewhere away from everyone and drink away his tears with alcohol of any kind. Even dubious drinks that may or may not be legitimately harmful to him.

Fear: FIGHT OR FLIGHT WHICH SITUATION WILL BEST AID SURVIVAL RED ALERT RED ALERT

Happiness/Excitement: When Jim's happy or excited everyone knows it. He's got a brilliantly bright smile, talks animatedly, gestures wildly and is quick to give friendly pats on the back or shoulder to convey his emotions. Even when he's exhausted but happy his smile is still there and while more soft spoken Jim still laughs quietly.

Love (Consider the "Five Languages of Love"):More than anything physical contact. Jim is always touching them even platonically. He tends to have a special smile reserved to that person alone that no one else ever has trained on them. He'll seek them out above all others and look for them when they're not nearby.

Lust: Jim's pretty deliberate and direct about making any feelings of lust clear if he's actually hoping to initiate a sexual encounter with someone. There have been people he's been quite deliberate on lusting after with no real expectation of anything happening in the past. These are usually people he can't/shouldn't be with and happened a lot at the beginning of his five year mission as he was determined not to fraternize with the crew and do his best to be a responsible, respectable captain. In those cases he never telegraphed those feelings nor made any attempt at engaging them sexually.

Stress/anxiety: He doesn't show it in front of the crew, though privately he's prone to pacing and running his hand through his hair. Licking at his lower lip and darting his eyes are also nervous tics of his.

Dislike (of a person, thing, or idea):If Jim doesn't like someone he is not afraid to let them know loudly and often. If the dislike is of a professional nature he's cooly civil but prone to throwing in snide remarks on occasion when they piss him off. If it's of a personal nature than he's liable to be much more antagonistic or even immature with the person (see: Ixis Naugus)

Approval (of a person, thing, or idea): Full body expression. Nodding of head, physical touch, praise, smiling. Jim wants others to be recognized when they to well.

How does this character generally express themselves? Jim's prone to touching people to signal his emotions. Holding someone's shoulder to support or silence them. Touching them on the arm to indicate they should follow. Clapping them on the shoulder if he's supporting them. He also gestures a lot with his hands and is very expressive in his face.

What does this character think/feel about-
Marriage:Marriage is nice for other people and a romantic idea but not something Jim has ever seen as possible for himself until recently. Even now, he views it as a means to an end rather than some life changing step. He can use it to abuse a loophole in regulation that may just let him keep a certain 'civilian' on board the ship with him...

Children:Hopes he doesn't have any from his wilder pre-Captain days and doesn't consider them an option for himself now or in the future. Likely cannot have them naturally anymore thanks to massive amounts of radiation exposure.

Family/Family Values:What family values? His family didn't teach him shit except for only relying on himself.

Children/Youth:Jim likes kids in general and gets along well with them. Doesn't mind watching them or taking care of them. Would probably make a really good dad despite his own apprehension about the topic.

Old age:This has never been something Jim has ever worried about until recently. He's nearly died so many times that he just always assumed he'd be dead long before old age was ever an issue. Now he views it with cautious optimism along with a healthy dose of trying to take better care of himself because he's seen what he looks like when he's older and this vain man has Opinions about it.

Sex:He will take sex as often as possible any way he can have it. He can do without but where's the fun in that?

Love:Currently he kind of resents it because it's making coping with the fallout with Felix a lot harder to deal with than he has other relationships in his past. He can't just let this go and move on. Not this time.

Friendship/Other relationships: Jim wants to befriend most anyone he meets. He treats almost anyone like they're friends whether they know/like him or not. Lots of times they come around and if they don't he's already moved on and befriended a lot more people. That said, there's very few people he lets get truly close to him.

Homosexuality: Sees no problem with it whatsoever.

The opposite sex: Women are very nice. The stronger willed the woman the more Jim likes them. Until falling into a committed relationship he tended to pursue women physically though not exclusively. People are people to Jim.

The same sex: Jim's a little more likely to get into conflicts with other men than he is women but it's a small margin. He also appreciates the male form. All of his serious relationships have been with other men though there have only been a few of these.

Money/Material things:Jim doesn't have much of a sense of money. He understands supply and inventory because paperwork is neverending aboard the Enterprise but
his time doesn't have much in the way of a concept of a paycheck. Jim lives comfortably and isn't wanting for anything so he's fine. The only material things Jim cares for all have sentimental value rather than any real worth.

Politics:UGH. Gag a maggot Jim hates dealing with them but it's part of the job. He especially hates being the 'golden boy' of Starfleet after the Nero and Khan incidents and all the bureaucracy that goes with it. His place is in The Chair not smiling and nodding for a photo op.

Religion:Until recently this was seen as an antiquated tradition that was worth studying for historical value but not something he gave much thought to in his own life. Certain events in Tamriel have made him rethink his stance on Felix's gods though.

Destiny/Duty:Destiny is a hot steaming pile of garbage and can shove it. Jim believes in forging his own path on his terms. That being said, he has a strong sense of duty and will own up to his decisions and take responsibility for them.

Magic/Myth:Awe and wonder since coming to the Nexus. His own world doesn't have anything like this so he takes great pleasure in seeking out as many different examples of magic as he can find in the Nexus.

Racism/Races in general: Jim has zero tolerance for bigotry and racism of any variety though he finds the old tradition of interhuman racism very confusing and more than a little embarrassing. He tends to treat everyone he meets the same and finds other species' cultures fascinating and worth learning as much as he can about them.

Science/Technology:Utterly vital for progress. Jim lives and dies by his tech.

Nature/Animals:Loves the outdoors and camping! While not a biologist by any means he has a definite interest in plants and animals of all kinds. Particularly partial to flowers though he knows next to nothing about them.

Modernity:Convenient and familiar. Necessary to getting as much work as he wants to do done in a timely fashion.

Antiquity:Jim's a huge history nerd and loves studying it. His current significant other is from a fantasy Ancient Rome equivalent as well so Jim's learned to appreciate it on many levels.

Their past:Best left never spoken about and forgotten by the ages.

Their future:At this very moment, lost and apprehensive. Jim is struggling with his place in both Starfleet and his friends' lives. He's about to turn a year older than his father ever got to be and what does he have to show for it? A broken relationship with the man he loves? A listless and immature view of his time as captain? A complicated and slightly stilted relationship with his close Nexus friends including Harrowheart?

Jim feels very lost right now and unsure how to move forward though he knows standing still is not an option.

Their role in society/job/etc:Jim despises the shadow he's been living in for most of his life and currently feels like a tool of Starfleet kept around for their convenience. He needs to find his own way.

Drugs and alcohol: Don't let it affect your job.

Killing/Murder:To be avoided at all costs unless absolutely necessary for survival.

Education:Learning is such a huge part of life and Jim finds it to be crucial though he's clear to put weight on both formal education and personal experience.

The foreign/unknown:Intriguing. The next page of a book he's avidly reading and never wants to put down.

How does the character view life? Fleeting opportunity for adventure and excitement. Embrace it to the fullest.

How does the character view death? There's definitely some fear at the thought of dying especially since he's already experienced it once. It hurt tremendously but he was terrified for it to stop and then it did and everything faded away. Jim doesn't want to become reacquainted with it anytime soon.

How does the character view society? It's not perfect but there's been some large steps forward toward a more peaceful integrated society as a whole within the Federation. He wouldn't want to be a part of any other faction.

How does the character imagine his/her own death? He doesn't have to imagine it. Jim is haunted by nightmares of his own death and the many many near misses that have come in his life.

What does the character want out of life?To find his own worth as a person. To make known the unknown.

What does this character consider "success" to be? Getting free of his father's shadow and being able to stand alone on his own two feet. Proving to everyone that he's more than the labels he's worn his whole life.

What would the character like to change in his/her life? Please stop abandoning him.

What motivates this character?Curiosity, duty, ambition, and a big heaping helping of spite to those who looked down on him or called him unworthy.

What discourages this character? His own self doubt and feelings of worthlessness. Making mistakes that cost the lives of people relying on him to make the right call. He won't run away from these mistakes but neither will he let them go.

What makes this character happy?New discoveries on his mission. Spending time with the people he cares about. Being right. Physical contact.

What makes this character sad?Loss of life. Upsetting the people he most cares about. Making the wrong call and putting his crew in danger. Knowing he'll never be buff.

What makes this character angry?Galactic terrorists. Antagonizing himself or the people he cares about. Talking shit on the Enterprise. Ixis Naugus. How Felix is enough like him that they share the same bad qualities as well as the good.

What humiliates this character?Having his mistakes made a spectacle of. Learning that someone has read/ca read his thoughts.

What most describes this character's personality?Thrill seeking leader with everything to prove.

Psychoanalysis (Describe why they act the way they do):Jim's abandonment issues have left him staunchly self reliant and with a severe lack of self worth. It's why he's the first person to put his life on the line when danger is possible or present. He's been told his whole life that he is worthless and doesn't deserve love or even to live. It's why he's so critical of his every failure and why he's so smug when he feels like he's right about something.

He craves attention and recognition and this behavior reinforces his recklessness and thrill seeking.

Does it stem from childhood or an event, or chemical? His mother's neglect, Frank's abuse, and Sam's utter abandonment of Jim have definitely shaped his issues but being labeled as 'unworthy' by Kodos on Tarsus IV cemented these ideas as 'fact'. He's been struggling ever since to prove it wrong.

Jim is the sort of person to get completely trashed and then hook up with someone with no meaning or even real interest behind it if he was for example really upset with his SO and under the impression that they hated him for one reason or another.

...Felix get over there and tell the man you love him RIGHT NOW FFS.

Good. Pretty sure this is why Starfleet wouldn't want Jim to have a shipboard wizard though.

They didn't say anything about xenobiologists with a focus in toxicology.
