March Writing Prompts 2022

March is here! We're almost through the winter, folks. You can make it! Sunny skies and warm beaches await us all on the other side. And As always--
Disclaimer: I never close old writing prompts from previous months. People can and should be encouraged to post on old month's prompts and I highly encourage players to track these posts to catch stragglers or new people writing on old prompts.
Now. With that out of the way, onto this month's prompts.
1. "What is it good for?" "Absolutely nothing."
2. Sometimes, things really do get better.
3. Finding a new purpose.
4. "You've changed... I like it."
5. Making breakfast isn't just for mornings.

Picture prompt - sunflowers and sakura blossoms
Itaru and Isamu were saving a place for them back at Eboshiyama Park, no doubt eagerly awaiting the sakura mochi and hanami dango he and his mother stopped to pick up from the family’s favorite sweet shop in Nanyo.
“They are.” Chichi smiled softly. “But as magnificent as the sakura are, I would imagine you, not as a cherry blossom, but as a sunflower.”
Minoru smirked. “Why’s that? Because I’m always looking at the positive? Like how sunflowers always face the sun?”
She ruffled her son’s hair gently.
“A touching metaphor, Minoru. You’re on the right track, but sunflowers only face the sun while they’re still growing.”
Heliotropism in sunflowers, from a scientific perspective, was a result of varying growth rates as the stem elongates over the course of a day. A mature plant actually faced east regardless of the time of day. This allowed the plant to warm up sooner, and attract bees and other pollinators more easily.
“So, why am I a sunflower?”
“Think of it like this. The sun is extrinsic motivation - a parent’s approval, your grades in school, validation from the people around you. All children naturally track this sun throughout the day, and this help them grow.” Chichi explained thoughtfully. “But you have matured. Like a sunflower, you face the direction where this sun suits your needs best, rather than continually looking to others to motivate you or validate your successes.”
“Oh… huh.” Minoru shrugged, careful not to drop the boxes of confections. “I guess, I do…”
He didn’t think that was really anything special. Then again, it probably felt pretty natural to the sunflowers too.
