The Doof Wagon rides again! (Fall music event)

Nothing says Autumn like bonfires, music, and storytelling. Prompted by an OOC conversation in chat, I bring you all a Fall Event designed for casual character interaction, especially in the form of singing at one another. Post will go up tomorrow, Saturday 11/2/19, some time in the afternoon or evening depending on my workflow.

After the Road War in the Wasteland, alas, Coma the Doof Warrior is missing and presumed dead. However, his legacy lives on, and it was only a matter of time before a new Doof Wagon was built. What better place for Furiosa and her lot to test it out than the Nexus, where, you know, people are less likely to get hurt if the flamethrowing guitar gets out of control? Expect drums, pyrotechnics, bonfires, and liquor. Everyone is invited to attend, and everyone is invited to sing.


In fact, characters may even feel compelled to sing, whether for sheer tipsy party enjoyment or because they have something they’ve been holding inside that simply must be expressed. The spirit of the Doof Warrior (coma_rocks_on) will appear here and there, in order to encourage partygoers. Shy singers should feel encouraged and emboldened, terrible musicians should feel free to participate in the spirit of sharing, etc. Characters who cannot sing may feel like dancing, telling jokes or stories, or just listening.

Instruments brought by the Citadel will include guitars, drums, flutes/pipes, and some Old-World recordings blasted at full-volume. Characters wanting items like piano or violin may have to write them into their posts, but finding an IC reason for there to be more things around to play should not be difficult. Microphones and amplifiers may be assumed to be present. Opportunities for more quiet musical exchanges, storytelling, and other conversation may be assumed available around bonfires to the outer edge of where the Doof Wagon will be parked in the Plaza.

There will be no LOLs involved other than subtle supernatural encouragement to sing, dance, and/or tell stories, but this is a party style event and mingling and threadhopping will be welcome. Because the Nexus is adjacent to infinite worlds, please feel free to assume your character has been exposed to songs and musical styles that they would not have access to in their own home dimension. Whatever works for the style of thread you want, goes.

Links to songs are welcome additions to your posts, but please don’t embed sound or video.

In addition to just serenading and mingling, there are a couple other ways to play this:

+ You have to get this message out, whether to the Nexus at large or an individual. Pick a song that encapsulates your feelings and belt it out, and hope someone is listening. People may react by complimenting your voice or by reacting to the message you’re trying to express. Or both, whatever.

+ This is a dialogue. Character A sings a song, Character B responds with another song, in a conversation with few to no spoken words. (example: Joe is romantically interested in Frank. Joe sings “If I Loved You”. Frank isn’t romantically into Joe and responds with “You’ve Got a Friend in Me”. Everything is awkward. They both need liquor now. Cue the drinking songs.)

+ This is a game! (the Crack Option?) Character A sings a song, Character B picks up on a word or phrase in that song and connects it to the lyrics or theme of a different piece, and the flow continues on in a stream of consciousness, until someone gives up. (example: Loki sings “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”; Thor picks up with “Counting Stars”; reacting to the lyric ‘sink in the river, the lessons I learned’; Loki responds with “Proud Mary”, because ‘rollin’ on the river’...and so on.)

I mean, yes please, fire dancing! If Harley starts that she might well get some War Boy backup. But also if you do want her to do aerial dances, feel free to arrange stuff in the Plaza to make it possible. I'm just trying to set up a backdrop for creativity, so anything you want to add in is possible as far as I'm concerned.

Oooh, this sounds fun! I need an excuse to try to get Esther to sing, lol. (Not that she's fond of singing, by any means. This ought to be good.)

Liquor and supernatural encouragement are available for wallflowers. I can also toss NPCs at her to help if you want, just let me know. I'm pretty sure Cheedo and Dag would happily befriend and encourage other young women.

I may post a single top comment for the angels all being carousing drunks around a fire or something, where others can respond to one or all of them. To stop them from having a pile of top levels. If that is acceptable?

That would be wonderful, actually. You can, of course, also have them tag around to other toplevels as you feel moved, but group toplevels are welcome and encouraged.

This is going to be fun :D I need to find some good songs for Dennis. If anyone wants to bully him/threaten him, he could sing Alive by Meatloaf to them. Hints of all that lovely stuff he's hiding.

He will definitely be singing though. He likes singing.
