August Writing Prompts 2019

August is here! We've had a few new and returning faces over the past month, and lots of great interactions across the board. Don't forget to check in at the carnival event this month for some lighthearted summer fun! And As always--

Disclaimer: I never close old writing prompts from previous months. People can and should be encouraged to post on old month's prompts and I highly encourage players to track these posts to catch stragglers or new people writing on old prompts.

Now. With that out of the way, onto this month's prompts.

August's Writing Prompts

1. It's time to learn something new! Write about your character picking up a new hobby or perfecting a skill.

2. "Everything is definitely probably under control."

3. What's your muse's favorite weekend getaway?

4. "Who's up for a 'friendly' competition?"

5. Describe the last outdoor event your muse attended.

Shakespeare in the Park.

It's Romeo and Juliet. A wonderful play that has no applicable meaning to Aziraphale's life whatsoever, haha, don't be ridiculous.

2 - everything is definitely… probably… under control

Minoru arrived back at his parents’ house after an early morning run. The sun was just coming up. Itaru and Isamu were still asleep, but Chichi was finishing her morning prayers at their personal house shrine.

“Mornin’, Mama…” he yawned, stretching as he walked into the room. “Asking the Kami to watch over me tonight?”

“I pray for my children’s protection every morning.” She replied with a soft smile, gently poking her son on the forehead. “But today, I may have wished twice.”

“Every morning? Even when we were little?”

Chichi nodded. “Always.”

It was one of the many ways Chichi ensured everything was definitely… probably… under control. She watched Minoru’s face turn contemplative.

“…Does that bother you?”

“No! No, not at all! I mean, I was just thinking… uh… whether it worked?”

She rubbed her son’s shoulder. “You are here today, hardy and healthy. You have grown into an honorable young man, and tonight, you will be one more step closer to reaching your goal.”

“Well, yeah, that’s all true. But there’ve been a lot of bumps and bruises and breaks along the way. So there’s definitely times your prayers weren’t answered.”

“Minoru, I pray for protection, not perfection.” She replied softly. “When we make a wish, be we both know that wishes do not come true without hard work. Blessings are very much the same. The kami can guide us, and support us, but it’s up to us to do our part as well.”

Minoru thought about that for a moment.

“Is that why you never bought me a bicycle when I was a kid? Or a skateboard? Or…”

Chichi laughed. That too, was one of the many ways she ensured everything was definitely… probably… under control. With as much as he got into on foot, neither Chichi nor Itaru could fathom keeping up with their son if they gave him a set of wheels. It was better off to not tempt fate.

“Minoru, I can pray for protection, but even the kami don’t work miracles.”
