+ 1 OC from a world where everything is awful.

What's up guys. I've been thinking about bringing an OC to the nexus and after some hilarious accidental tagging, say hello to Kyle Shaw, AKA Ceberus. Husband, International Affairs Reporter, goofball, nerd, soon-to-be father, teacher, and giant wolf monster. Curious? Hit the cut text!

TW: illegal imprisonment and body horror.

Kyle is a reporter with the New York Times who married a med-vac helicopter Pilot named Kate Cramner and honestly he would have had a normal life, had kids, gotten fat and probably been painfully, horrifically normal if not for a man named Lot and his corporation.

Lot is a man who - in a parody of real life - owns half the world and ends up using his considerable resources to make a vision he had as a boy a reality. Lot dreamed of God, commanding him to create an army of Angels saying that the Angels would heal mankind's woes and prepare them for the eventual coming of the end of days.

Lot teamed up with a Dr. (Krasnik, think Jeff Goldblum) who created a revolutionary cancer treatment using nanites that re-wrote human DNA but it had the unusual side effect of altering the patient's DNA. In doing so he creates his wife, Barbara "barbie" Kransnik who has stopped aging thanks to her plastic skin. Dubbing her an angel, Lot, aging, teams up with the Krasniks to alter the world at large.

Enter Kyle and Kate, a reporter and his wife. Kate, on her last tour of duty in Kuwait, is joined by her husband. She and Kyle discuss having a child (Kate is against it but willing to be convinced. Kyle accepts her convictions, the two of them concerned.) Kyle, working on a piece for National Geographic, discovers Krasnik and Lot's holding facility and ends up in the first test of Krasnik's nanite storm.

The nanites heighten the host's natural abilities, dig into the junk DNA in the human bloodstream, and add things in the environment to the host's genetic structure. Kate's commanding officer Colonel Sharpe becomes "Troll", a short round figure who expels noxious gas. The man literally transforms into this figure and is declared dead by the nearby army.

A second reporter escapes to the states and attempts to warn Kyle and Kate about the nanite swarm and what she saw during the first case they went out ot the desert to initially investigate. Kyle and Kate argue and disagree and Kyle - dealing with the effects of the nanites, argues with her as he begins to transform.

When a person infected with the nanites transforms it's not a pleasant experience by any means. The subject turns into a combination of Jeff Goldblum in the Fly and Toxie from the Toxic Avenger before their body dissolves into a womb where, three to seven days after their infection, they emerge with abilities and mutations. Mostly mutations.

SOME people, through a random luck of the draw, develop wombs over different places and different body parts. Some end up inside the body and some end up inside the brain giving people abilities while allowing them to look normal.

Lot, teaming up with the government, arranges for infected individuals to be shipped to a hospital that encompasses the state of Utah. Built into a massive dome structure, these people will supposedly receive round the clock care and eventually (hopefully) be cured. Distressed by the seeming failure of his "hand of god" he moves into the city and takes on the role of a corrupt and evil superman, assembling a justice league of people who are inspired to be superheroes. The disease continues to spread as people turn the disease into a viral meme with everybody wanting superpowers.

Superhero media is real in Kyle's world, it's just not superhero media anybody has ever heard of. The people writing the superhero comic books, movies, and stories are outlawed and disappear from public life. Kyle and the rest of the people captured by ROOF (redemption observation official force) are sent to Redemption - the city of heroes that holds a place of horror and wonder for the rest of the country.

Kyle is one of the first heroes who becomes infected and transforms into a massive wolf-cockroach creature. Disoriented and terrified he breaks out of his womb, flees from his wife, and is captured by Commando/Lot who uses the footage as propaganda to support his views. There are good superheroes and there are villains. He's a good guy. People like Kyle, a guy in the wrong place at the wrong time, is caught in the crossfire.

Eventually Kyle's kid, raised by his best friend Charlie Ramirez, arrives in Redemption after her "brother", Charlie's son, is sent to the city when he develops abilities.

Kyle for the past 15 years has spent his time not giving into despair, animal urges, or generally being a monster by devoting himself to teaching the "stage 3" children, otherwise known as "villain "children. He's adopted a son named Micheal and lives apart from his wife Kate who is a stage 2, possessing telepathic powers. Kyle and Kate are a part of a resistance working to bring down Redemption and free the people inside as Lot has forgotten his original purpose and is devoted to simply recreating Gotham City or the Marvel 616 universe.

Lily, Kate and Kyle's child, is a bitter nervous anxiety ridden Katniss Everdeen who hates superheroes (despite her parents being them), has no special powers (she is in fact immune to the nanites.) and lived in a borderline religious dystopia for most of her life until she ends up falling in with her mother and father, taking down the city, and helping them kill lot and her evil aunt before it's accepted that Lot has altered the course of human history and human beings will now be forced to live and deal with superhuman abilities.

Kyle is basically a reporter who arrives halfway through the first book in his series - trying to cope with a decaying marriage. Eventually he'll transform, manifest his abilities, and use the Nexus as an escape from a very shitty situation.

If anyone has ANY questions (or wants to read any of the short stories I've written about these guys) feel free to comment here. He'll be intro'd soon!
