Very late 90's/early 00's boyband pop dominated his childhood thanks in large part to his two sisters. With his parents absent much of the time that was what dominated his house since they outnumbered him and he's always tended to cater to them, though as the twins got older their tastes shifted. Hannah stayed into pop but developed an interest in alternative rock and Disney soundtracks whereas Beth's interests shifted more into Indie Rock. A lot of Deathcab for Cutie and the like.

Josh's personal interests are varied, but if you rifled through his CD collection in middle school when those were still things people had it was a LOT of hard rock and post grunge.

What is their secret genre or song? Something they wouldn't necessarily want others knowing they like. –
Thanks to a huge circle of close friends, Josh's tastes are pretty eclectic but he doesn't tend to let most anyone see his driving playlists. He likes anything he can sing along to loudly when he's driving so it's a lot of trashy pop and radio hits mixed in with his rock. Avril Lavigne side by side with Nickleback mixed in with his favorite rock hits makes for a Russian Roulette of a playlist for his dignity.

And what genre can they just not stand? If possible, find an example. –
80's Synthwave and a lot of metal since it's been hijacked by the Alt-Right. No links, I'm not giving them views.

Do they associate any specific songs or genres with themselves? –
One of the most telling songs that resonates with Joshua is Three Days Grace's "Pain".

Do they associate any specific songs or genres with other people? –
Only insofar as picking a song to embody the genre of music each of his friends prefers. Anything by Lifehouse reminds him of Hannah. Lily Allen reminds him of Beth and the time he took her, Hannah, and Jessica out to go see her in Calgary.
