HALLOWEEN OOC PREP POST!!

 Guys, it's upon us! Halloween is right around the corner! Hope you got your candy bought and your horror movies ready cuz we're about to get down to business.

This year, we'll be doing the traditional IC Halloween party event, but now with a seasonally appropriate twist where something spooky is going to go down. Here's some basic info in handy bulletpoint form first and foremost:

• The event post will go up a few days before October 31st, so we can get rolling on the fun!
• The event will be in two parts: the usual party and the following scarytime portion.
• Neither part requires participation in the other to join the fun! You can tag in the party but skip the spooky, or jump right to the spooky when it arrives. Or both! You can do both.
• The party portion will remain open indefinitely, so don't worry if you show up late due to your own IRL festivities or get in on it when the spooky phase has begun. They're set in the same area but the party will remain largely a standalone for people to mingle, dance, eat candy, get drunk off their asses, make poor decisions while drunk, and have fun with costumes. As God intended.

So with that being said, let's get down to aforementioned spooky business! Because to make this second phase work, I need your guys' help and input! Why?

Because at some point during the night, an event is going to take place that will transport the hapless participants into a holiday appropriate pocket realm where they will have to deal with some frightening things pulled from their own psyche.

And what I need from the good folks of the Nexus is to share here (if interested in this portion of the event, it is fine if you were prefer to opt out and just enjoy partying hard!) that you are interested, what your character's worst memoryis (if you would like to avoid spoilers to fellow players, you can message me with it as well) and help me pair you off! Because yes, this event is going to have a buddy system where things will get mixed up and you'll have to work together to get yourselves out of the spooky nightmare pocket and back to reality to put a kibosh on what caused this all!

Another portion that requires input from you: would you prefer for me to pair you off via names out of hat? Or would you rather discuss here to find your buddy? I'll gladly honour both, honestly. If you guys get raring in here to have two particular characters work together, go for it! If you'd prefer for me to find you a partner, I'll do that too! This one is up to you.

So let's get started! Feel free to ask further questions or clarifications too as I'm positive I've missed or glossed over some things.

Well, I honestly am not sure what a personification of deception would fear, but would it be ok if someone got subjected to nightmarish visions of an English village during the Black Death? They would then have to deal with a seemingly friendly plague doctor who has sinister intentions hidden away...

If that doesn't work, I can happily plop Dr. White into the party during the chaos. It's fine. It's not like he'll be able to leave the Nexus after the party's over.

And getting dropped into the middle of what looks like a plague-struck village is a plenty creepy setting for a poor, unsuspecting partner to end up with. (Especially Forty down there, who comes from an obnoxiously plague-ridden background. Thanks, Forsaken!)

Okay can I get a fuckinnnn uhhhhh... Nightmare for Harrowheart? Personally I think his would revolve around being chased by demons or hunted by worgen/werewolves. Definitely heavy on the "Run and hide, you're being pursued by something you can't fight" aspect.

Alternately... Harrowheart would be terrified of being in a position of not being able to stop himself from hurting people he considers close friends. He could BE the hound on the hunt, aware of what he's doing and yet not in control of his nightmare enough to stop himself. You know, on the off-chance anyone wants to be chased by a wolfman player character rather than NPC. (If that can even work logistically!)

That can SUPER work logistically, especially if you think about him getting a partner who is promptly put to the chase, and THEN him following out to the 'hub' of the Nightmare where now he's EVERYONE'S problem. I love it.

Vanyel is of course gonna be involved, Armand and Dinah are also available as partners for these shenanigans.

As far as nightmares go... Van's tend to revolve around being unable to save the people he cares about, whether that's from the Thalmor, the Dark Brotherhood, etc is variable, the only constant is that feeling of helplessness.

Also, more recently, Hermaeus Mora's dead certainty that Van is gonna come crawling to be his champion - which could take the form of being smothered by dem tentacles or a Seeker's shroud or forced into a mask like Miraak's or- sky's the limit there, basically.

Everyone's getting to see Apocrypha recently! I'm so jealous. I always wanted to be pals with one of those reading noodle guys in there. Also, it's a GREAT setting for a Nightmare-scape.

(To be fair, Miraak's mask is really cool. Win-win for fashion?)

That's totally fine! There'll still be plenty to do and CR to have with just the party portion of things. :] Scary stuff isn't everyone's bag so we wanted to make sure that everyone gets to have fun no matter what because missing out on Halloween is a CRIME. A CRIME!

Was this event something to do with Zoroark's illusions? That whole deal is always so cool and fun. Loads of potential.

All of them will probably be at the party itself, but as for nightmares I'm pretty open to work with whatever with whomever, especially with discussion.

As for their fears, Forty fears becoming Scourge again, Dia fears dying itself, especially pointlessly, and ... honestly, Delia just fears the Borg.

I'm new & I'd really love some CR, plus this sounds like fun (YES LET'S GET SPOOKY INDEED) so I'm in with Krennic here. Hmmm, I have some choices for his worst memory, but I think it's definitely when Galen gets married. That's kind of a personal interpretation though, so if you want a canon one (spoilers for Catalyst the novel) his worst memory would be by the end of it, when Galen escaped with his family. And then he got demoted back to Lieutenant Commander. That is probably Krennic's worst canon memory (and probably also the first day when he found out that Tarkin is his supervisor...).

I'd rather discuss if anyone wants him as a partner, but pairing him off randomly works just fine for me too. Just let me know if anyone wants a grumpy evil Imperial Director as their buddy in the nightmare realm.

I definitely want to volunteer my Jim Kirk (the bearded one). His absolute worst memory is the famine and massacre on Tarsus IV, though if that’s too heavy a scenario, there’s always the events of Into Darkness, which are a bit fresher in his mind at the moment anyway.

Can I say that the ongoing distinction of Jim-with-Beard Jim-without-Beard is mad funny. Is there a rule now that this Jim isn't allowed to shave?

Also, heavy is fine and actually works GREAT for this particular thing, since the whole idea is everyone getting dumped into some unsettling locations that stress specific people out in specific ways.

Additionally: I love Faris too and hope he gets to come along with someone!

While Harley rolls with the punches, and takes things with her own ray of sunshine... personally I would love her to show off her awesome fighting skills.

I do have other characters that I am willing to have paired up:
Hunter: losthunter -- while he doesn't have any particular bad memories for others to be pulled into, he does make for a good hapless victim.
April Kent: slayers_desire -- who doesn't want to get pulled into the Buffyverse, where vampires and demons become your worse nightmares.
Hermione Jean Granger: mudblood_andproud -- this young witch has experienced some pretty heavy torture. and had to survive very bad conditions.

The event will likely try to remain combat light (at least in terms of things getting solved) but it certainly accounts for the fact some people have fight before flight. ;] She'll certainly be good for someone who might otherwise go on lockdown in fear. (cough Josh Washington cough)

I'm gonna take another look through the volunteers already suggested, but for my part...

I'm volunteering both Blaze and Ghost (this account) - but separately, because acting as emotional ballast for each other is what they do and that is just not sporting. Both of them have plenty of nightmare fuel to offer if anyone wants to get chased around pustulent lunar caverns by ravenous alien mummies.

Blaze's personal nightmares include: being attacked by (and killing) everyone she's ever met, a confusing jumble of fragmented memories from the losing end of a world-ending war... and her own mental instabilities causing her system to reboot and wipe her memory. Ghost's worst nightmares are losing his Guardian and being hunted through the wilds by dark creatures (again).

Also going to throw in Stratos/auspex_caelo, who has some great potential nightmares about brutal invasions of his homeland and/or being ordered to hand civilians over for torture... or worse, having no way out of doing the job himself. If soul-blighting cruelty and moral compromises sound more your creepy style, lemme know!

Adia's worst memory (TW for suicide)

I love all the Halloween nightmares/pairings-up I'm seeing so far!

I'm volunteering Adia (this event) for this account. Her worst memory involves Caspar's suicide, which I've had Adia mention bits and pieces of to others, but very rarely does she share the whole story.

Caspar's Cylon model was the first to be discovered. Stuck on a spaceship with nowhere to go, he stole the security guard's gun and threatened to shoot Adia before dragging her into the lab holding viable samples of infectious diseases and activated the failsafe that hermetically sealed the door. After a tearful and confusing exchange, Caspar confessed that he was a Cylon and then shot himself in the head, leaving Adia stuck with his dead body for over an hour, until the door could be forced open.

It's left her with a fear of guns, abandonment, and being trapped.

Not sure where to throw this girl, but Amelia's definitely in to either help someone else or be forced to deal with her own fears.

Her worst fears revolve around being forgotten and/or not being found worthy. It's led to a lot of (often poor) choices in her life and is something she struggles with on a subtle level pretty much every day. Not being worthy has kept her from things she's truly wanted to work for and being forgotten mostly has to do with the fact that she's from a tiny world that she cut off from the Nexus. She's the only one who remembers her world - what would happen if she was then forgotten?

I feel like she had similar fears with Krennic, especially the being forgotten and/or not being found worthy part, so if you ever wanna get paired up with an evil, petty space opera villain let me know lol

Alternatively, if anyone wants their character to get chased by Reynard during the spooky section, I'm happy to play that out too. He will definitely be around for the lighter festivities too, naturally.

Isidor fears… mostly being helpless. But nightmare things coming to life is definitely a fear for her.

And Reynard fears a whole lot of things, but primarily he fears Winter leaving him. Not a Big Monster fear, but the exaggerated feeling/effects of it leaving him would terrify him.

Okay! So! I will be slow as hell because long commute, but I'm here to offer up (hahahahaha GET IT) Iphigenia here, for both the party and the spookiness.

Her worst memory is her death, which involved getting sacrificed. (Good lord, this canon is morbid.) She died a slow and painful death before coming to the Nexus, which is where she now feels safe, so yay for stirring up old memories.

She's afraid of being trapped in a situation where there are no options but bad ones.
