(no subject)

Hi all.

Been meaning to introduce myself for a few days now.
I'm Hix and I am new here(gasp).
Now I have a few questions about the Nexus. I know I can ask the Mods about it but I'd prefer to use this opportunity to get to grips with a few people in the community first. There's no big problems or anything I just get a kick out of world building and discovery so any info would be appreciated.
They're more queries than questions really.

For example the land changes but there's no mention of fault lines, volcanoes or any other kind of natural disaster. I'm taking that as written that those things don't happen outside of designated LOL's right?

Also there's not any real telling what the technology available is like, i-pads to alchemy stations and seemingly everything in between. Can I just say there's a shop with what I need or does the nexus simply supply necessary things?

Lastly I wanna say Thanks for having me and Happy Typing.

Hi, Hix! I'm Moony and I mostly play this fellow here, who's my player character from Skyrim. Also occasionally Armand from The Vampire Chronicles and Dinah from Bizenghast.

Re: the land changes. The way I understood it, it's not so much the result of natural disasters so much as just... random happenings. The plaza is the only thing that really stays consistent, everything else about the landscape/where things are we kind of decide on an 'at-need' basis. "Space is warped and time is bendable," basically.

Same goes for the technology level! We have people here from all kinds of settings, so it's kind of a mash-up. Han Solo has his speeder, characters from 'modern-day Earth' type settings have cell phones, my guy has his alchemy station, etc. We've all handwaved the Nexus supplying things/places our characters need/want at one time or another, so you're more than welcome to do the same.

Hope this helps. :)

ETA: There's also the Setting page, where you can see some of the kinds of locations we've added to the Nexus. (And if you do go with the shop you can add it there as a permanent location by commenting under the top level for the area you want to put it in.)

Hey there, newcomer, I'm DEL!. I think Moony covered most of the questions you had, but yeah, just to reiterate: natural disasters would probably fall under an event, especially if the results would be widely spread. But there can always be contained situations your character could experience or discover, should you have the desire. Weird places where it rains bottle caps, an active volcano that's just chillin' somewhere in the wilderness, a glacier that's blocking a city street. Weirdness is just expected in the Nexus and can account for pretty much anything making an appearance or being a feature. Also, things can be there one day and gone the next. Or just have moved to a new location or require a new route to get there. Again, it's all up to you! (Unless it's referring to a specific setting someone else made in the Settings link Moony provided.)

If you WANTED something big to happen that might change the landscape in a way that would require action or people responding, like an actual earthquake or a lavaflow, it'd be best to ask the mods first if it'd fly and hash out some timing and details. Since it's not against the rules, but sometimes things need to be planned a little beforehand and make sure it doesn't overlap with stuff already in the mix.

Also, one staple tech of the Nexus is that there's typing terminals and web cafés for people making texts posts or responding. It's rare, but it's there for people who want to go that route! Otherwise, just assume you can find anything from the middle ages to the space-age future if your character knows where to look or who to ask. It's a meeting place of worlds with a robust shopping district (and underbelly), so you can find all sorts of neat shit!

ALSO ALSO, nothing stopping your character from poking around portals and finding worlds that DO contain things they want to find. Just make sure they're careful since it's not always smart to just hop from place to place with no certain plan of how to get back.

FINALLY A QUESTION FOR YOU TOO: What's your character about? Are they from an original setting? Or a set canon? I'm just curious and don't see much info on his journal yet.
