OOC: Into a Rising Wind

Welcome back, my chilly chums! We find our frigid heroes in a frosty fix! Will they escape the polar perils that lie ahead? There’s only one way to find out…

Once again the top posts contain calls for volunteers: this time from characters seeking help with specific missions. All of these will help build up to the main expedition and give your characters new chances for CR and new challenges to face. Characters with curses or other handicaps will have to pick what tasks they take on and figure out how to deal with their new limits. Characters who don’t want to take their chances on a dangerous and grueling expedition into the snows can still shine in the smaller missions! And once again, don't be afraid to take the initiative in starting threads and plotlines of your own!

Please use this post for Event related plots, for the sake of convenience. If you still want to use the Event setting for asking a question in the community, that's different, go ahead!

The next post will focus on activities in the plaza and will be up after a shorter delay this time. Part three will have added activities for characters who aren’t taking part in the expedition, with an update phase when the expedition returns.

Katsuya will be largely absent from the base this time. His focus is going to be on protecting the Crossroads Cafe so it can be used as a base of operations for any Player Character either in between expeditions or as a makeshift home. Anyone who wants to help take care of their comrades braving the elements to get supplies can poke me for threads. I know Isidor Durant will also be doing a lot of information gathering and thinktanking for expedition ideas so for those of us who won't be going on expeditions there's still plenty of opportunity for CR.

The only reason Jim Kirk isn't going on half of these missions is because someone has to organize them and the expeditions. As things get more crucial he's going to be pushing himself to his limits making sure that everything is as planned out as he can make it.

I want Furiosa to make a brief stop in the medical unit to have her stump looked at, because I feel like the reminder that she's human and vulnerable is sort of integral to her character. But! She's also ready and inclined to fling herself into the most dangerous expedition possible, so she'll be quick to volunteer with Blaze.

Although, if Blaze's team fills up before Furi gets there, she'd also be a good scout.

Cricket will probably end up volunteering to help repair things after the expeditions leave, but he'll be close at hand to help prepare, so anything Josh needs done, he can pitch in with.

I'll have a tag up in the cafe infirmary tomorrow, hopefully– I seem to remember some of his castmates are in there? He needs to be looked at anyway; worst he'll have is a badly strained wrist he's semi-gracefully ignoring look at how purple his hand is Jesus h Christ.

What sort of energy system/power grid are they working off of, here in the Nexus? Since they're having to conserve fuel, I'm guessing there's not a convenient way to get his armor charged again, which is super, no one needs him being an OP primadonna. Tony is...probably going to quietly panic about that, combined with the general stress of being stuck here, if any close castmate (1) wants to deal with that hot mess for a short thread. If not, no worries, conceal, don't feel, he'll keep his shit around strangers.

Post-on-or-offscreen crisis, he'll help out at base camp wherever he can, particularly if anything technical needs handling! I'm also open for recs, if his presence would be better served elsewhere. 👍🏻

oh my god Tony did you fall out of the goddamn sky or something That seems like a good place to start him out! There's definitely a Natasha and a Steve who'll be hanging around there pretty soon, and though I may have to check this, some of his other castmates might be making a delivery of frosted Spiders shortly!

At this point, power sources are basically 1), portable power supplies/generators, 2), some magic and 3), Pokemon. The cafe has so far been heated by a combination of the latter two, with the public bunker getting first call on the generators and fuel reserves. So Tony is (in)conveniently out of luck when it comes to recharging... at least for now.

On the other hand, there's definitely a bunch of mechanically-minded people trying to rig equipment and especially vehicles for the main expedition that should be getting underway shortly. He'd definitely be welcome there and might pick up some useful intel about weird tech not too far out in the wilds that might be of interest if he starts to get desperate/reckless.

ATTN: Main Expedition Thread

Hey folks! For practical and [SPOILERS] reasons I’ll be co-ordinating the main expedition thread and I’m working on getting that underway. Shortly Isidor’s going to be putting out an IC call/Q&A for people willing to do a hit-and-run raid on the enemy, with the goal of retrieving enough food to keep the Nexus fed until spring. This will end up being an action-heavy thread to wrap up phase 2 with lots of combat, opportunities for injury, running and yelling and heroic maneuvers etc. etc.

First things first, I’d like to get a final count of which characters are in on this. If you want your character to be involved and/or you have questions, please comment here or message me via PM or Discord.

Second, I want to give everyone a heads-up on the game plan for this. Since there’ll probably be a fair few characters involved my aim is to keep the pace moving as easily as possible for everyone. I will post up the starting tag, and then allow time for everyone to post in once before adding the next mission beat. Ideally I’ll update the main thread once per evening; if you need extra time and really want to tag in, or you want to skip a round, just let me know.

I’m going to say that posting order will be flexible here: if you have your tag ready to go you can go ahead and add it. If anyone wants to pause for CR or chat with another character at a particular point in the expedition, (or for individual encounters in the later part of the thread) we can branch that thread off and let the main thread keep moving through the plot points.

Hopefully that plan works for everyone! If you have any thoughts or questions please go ahead and poke me. First I just want to get a headcount so we can make sure to plan cool things for everyone (and I know who to wait for).

I'd love to participate with both Palmer and Kinner. They're thematically appropriate for the event - Palmer's angry over the ice monster attack and wants both revenge and answers. Kinner would make for a useful scout and ranged combatant.

I think I would like Loki to be involved here. He wouldn't set out from the Plaza with the heroes since he's been out in the wilderness, but having him surprise step-in from elsewhere would be fun. He might not fight overtly but instead run around stacking the deck in favor of Nexizens he knows and likes.

Assuming the other expedition with Blaze results in everyone coming back roughly intact, Furiosa will definitely want to go, as well.

Steve will be guarding the home front, and I imagine Cricket and Danny will attempt to volunteer and be told 'sit down, kid' for varying reasons.

Sure thing! I probably will need some details about her abilities. Couple of questions: what kind of limits are you most interested in pushing, physically or mentally? What outcome would you prefer to aim for in terms of injury/stress?

Damn, Delia and Dia would both be great picks. If you want you can stick to one or we could say both are along and you can focus on one as it suits you, like if you want to do some CR with Delia early on but you're more interested in getting Dia in a duel later.

Furiosa is of course welcome on the expedition and I have in no way been saving a vehicle section for this eventuality. And oh man, Cricket is going to give Blaze flashbacks to younger!Steve if she's there when he tries to volunteer.

Physically: Harley is an enhanced human. She has enhanced strength, enhanced agility, enhanced speed and her body heals very quickly. She is an experienced gymnast (combined with her agility and speed makes her very nimble and dexterous). She is immune to toxins and poisons. She has combat training. And due to her time with Suicide Squad, she has fought in harsh situations before.

Weapons: Currently Harley owns two magically enchanted weapons. A fire sword she received as a Secret Santa gift. And a ice dagger she received from Loki. Her bat is made out of reinforced wood, that allows her to do a lot of damage with it, without it breaking. She is explosives trained, and has enhanced her yo-yos before, to deal extra damage.

Mentally: She is extremely intelligent. She has psychiatric training, which allows her to figure out secrets others are hiding. Harley is a think outside the box person, but does know how to follow the rules. She has endured torture. And has to deal with the side-effects of the Joker Toxin in her body (which makes her laugh uncontrollably at times). She has killed/ seriously injured other people before without a thought.

I can see her going to the extremes to protect others. Harley is not afraid to get into life-or-death situations. So I definitely am okay with her getting in a situation where she gets serious injured protecting others. I would love to have it one of those 'cliffhanger' situations, where those she protected are not sure if she survived or not... dun dun dunnnn

I am also okay to push her mental stability, and make her face another psychosis break.

I know I messaged you late in about this, but I'm singing up at the last second! Missed the original call out post, so here goes.

Literally, Natalie wants to burn everything that's been a threat so far, or even remotely encouraged the event. Unlike the first expedition, she has no objection to using all 6 of her Pokemon at once. Her style of fighting will still have strategy, but it's a literal wildfire with her: she's going to get mad.

As for her weaknesses, obviously if her teammates start getting into trouble, her attention will definitely be diverted, thus opening her up to injury. Speaking of that, I'd prefer her to be mentally pushed to the limit, with some small physical injuries. She's already seen the worst of humanity, has fearful and confusing feelings about the creatures (they remind her of scary events in the past).

Lastly, she has a desperate trump card in the form of a Z-Move (https://youtu.be/bPl2djlLkJM?t=49) which I would like to use in the battle. The catch is that it would most certainly leave her open for an assault. If you need more details, you know where to find me.
