Past History
Hometown: Yahar'gul, the Unseen Village First Memory: Lying in his bassinet, watching as glowing slug-like beings drifted through the air above him. Most important childhood event that still affects him/her: When his brother told him that he didn't see the creatures he was pointing out and that he must be lying. Why/How? Micolash realized that day that no one else could see the things he did. It spelled isolation and being ostracized in his younger years, but would go on to reassure him that he was exceptional as an adult. Other memories/events that still affects him/her and why/how: The time he was caught by a neighbour dissecting her cat. (He found it already dead.) It was the first time he'd heard an adult voice how distastefully STRANGE everyone found him to be.
The first time he saw an Amygdala crawling across the rooftops from his boyhood window against a red evening sky. It was terrifying and his first exposure to the Great Ones.
The time he became obsessed with reaching the 'other room' in the mirror. He was gripped by the desire to enter for an entire month and his family had to hide or give away every mirror they had in the house. This strange fixation would still flare up as he grew older, but never as badly as the first time.
Past failures s/he would be embarrassed to have people know about and why: He'll never admit the Mensis Ritual went wrong, not even to himself. Biggest role model: Provost Willem of Bergynwerth Why? Attending the college of Bergynwerth was a life-changing event for Micolash, at last surrounded by people that felt and saw like he did. And none of it could have happened if it hadn't been for Master Willem's particular interest in the studying what they would come to know at the Great Ones. When Bergynwerth fell and was condemned as forbidden ground by the Healing Church, Micolash would go on to found another college in the provost's footsteps: The College of Mensis. One wholly committed to the man's greatest epiphany: We are thinking on the basest of planes. What we need, are more eyes. Biggest challenge from childhood: Making friends and otherwise behaving in a socially acceptable way. He acted strangely and disturbed children and adults alike. Sometimes his own family was put off. It rarely bothered him, though.
Physical Characteristics
Height: 6'0". Weight: 120 lbs. Posture: Upright but wobbly. Deceptively well-balanced thanks to so long wearing a massive cage like he does. Build: Extremely skinny from undernourishment and generally being a scholar first and foremost. Skin: Wan. A very unhealthy shade of pale. Hair: Brown Eyes: Light blue Describe their smile: Uncertain and unpracticed. Always wobbly and sickly, as if unsure he's doing it right or just doing it very consciously. If he's gripped in academic excitement, it'll become a good deal more manic. Tattoos/Scars? None Glasses/Contacts? He sometimes needs reading glasses. He forgets where he puts them a lot and isn't super good about replacing them when he does. Left/Right handed? Left-handed Distinguishing features: Sickly complexion, wildly curly hair, extremely pale eyes, no eyebrows, his Mensis Cage. Who does s/he take after; mother or father? His mother. Despite being a confusing and difficult child, he was closer to her and she protective of him. His father really never understood his younger son. Style (Elegant, shabby, etc): Shabby but formal. Clothing is always tattered, scuffed, rumpled or threadbare. How does s/he dress or what do they typically wear? He prefers pinstripe slacks, a simple button-up, tweed waistcoats, his scholarly regalia cape and hood, a sleeveless coat on top of all that, and a tie or ribbon at his throat. And of course, his cage. Such was the school uniform back in Mensis. Other outfits one might find in their wardrobe: Bigger coats for the cold, scarves, surgery scrubs, cage prototypes. Jewelry: He used to have a pocketwatch but he destroyed it lost it. Other accessories: Did I mention his cage? As another sidenote, his shoes are never tied. Weapons: His first resort is always his augur (the tentacles.) Second is casting A Call Beyond (exploding star.) He's not afraid to punch someone with his skinny noodle arms either, but that's a last resort matter. He's pretty handy with a scalpel as well. Health: Poor. He regularly neglects sleep, food and drink and it shows. His mental health is also in shambles in more ways than one can count. Hygiene: Poor. One of the main functions of the Mensis Cage was forcing someone to neglect their own body. He was wearing his regularly even before he arrived to the Nightmare. As such, he's outright forgotten how to care for himself in the most basic ways. Physical Flaws: His frail body is his biggest weakness. It can take a lot more punishment than it should be able to, but it's still pretty easy to knock over a paper-thin nerd in a heavy hat. Physical Qualities: Despite it all, he runs SO fast. Also, there's something about his blood that has unusual qualities as well that sustains him.
